That distinction between atmosphere and melody is useful. I hear the atmosphere first, but the melody is what makes “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” survive outside its original era.

The arrangement is the argument for me. On Easter Lily, “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” leaves enough space for the rhythm section and guitar texture to pull in different directions without losing the song.

I keep coming back to the writing. “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” works because the emotional idea is direct, while the performance leaves some ambiguity around it. That balance is a very U2 strength.

Context matters here. Heard inside Easter Lily, this feels more purposeful than it can on a shuffled playlist. The surrounding material changes the weight of the song.

The counterargument is economy. U2 are often strongest when the arrangement commits to one central idea, and “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” does not always make that choice.

My rating is close to the community’s 7.4. I admire the ambition, although I think the studio production occasionally competes with the core melody.

The most interesting comparison is studio versus live. “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” has an arrangement sturdy enough to be reshaped, but the original recording still defines its atmosphere for me.

A song can be important without being a personal favourite. “COEXIST (I Will Bless the Lord at All Times?)” is a good test case: craft, historical place and the urge to replay it are three different questions.
