I’m slightly less persuaded. The production is characterful, but I sometimes hear the sound of Singles, B-Sides & Rarities more clearly than the identity of this individual song.

A song can be important without being a personal favourite. “Kingdom” is a good test case: craft, historical place and the urge to replay it are three different questions.

Edge’s choices are unusually disciplined here. The memorable part is not simply a guitar sound; it is how the instrument creates motion around Bono’s phrasing without filling every gap.

The arrangement is the argument for me. On Singles, B-Sides & Rarities, “Kingdom” leaves enough space for the rhythm section and guitar texture to pull in different directions without losing the song.

I keep coming back to the writing. “Kingdom” works because the emotional idea is direct, while the performance leaves some ambiguity around it. That balance is a very U2 strength.

Context matters here. Heard inside Singles, B-Sides & Rarities, this feels more purposeful than it can on a shuffled playlist. The surrounding material changes the weight of the song.
