Context matters here. Heard inside War, this feels more purposeful than it can on a shuffled playlist. The surrounding material changes the weight of the song.

My rating is close to the community’s 7.9. I admire the ambition, although I think the studio production occasionally competes with the core melody.

The most interesting comparison is studio versus live. “Like a Song…” has an arrangement sturdy enough to be reshaped, but the original recording still defines its atmosphere for me.

A song can be important without being a personal favourite. “Like a Song…” is a good test case: craft, historical place and the urge to replay it are three different questions.

Edge’s choices are unusually disciplined here. The memorable part is not simply a guitar sound; it is how the instrument creates motion around Bono’s phrasing without filling every gap.

The arrangement is the argument for me. On War, “Like a Song…” leaves enough space for the rhythm section and guitar texture to pull in different directions without losing the song.
