Edge’s choices are unusually disciplined here. The memorable part is not simply a guitar sound; it is how the instrument creates motion around Bono’s phrasing without filling every gap.

The arrangement is the argument for me. On How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, “Love and Peace or Else” leaves enough space for the rhythm section and guitar texture to pull in different directions without losing the song.

I keep coming back to the writing. “Love and Peace or Else” works because the emotional idea is direct, while the performance leaves some ambiguity around it. That balance is a very U2 strength.

Context matters here. Heard inside How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, this feels more purposeful than it can on a shuffled playlist. The surrounding material changes the weight of the song.

There is also a sequencing point: this song changes the temperature of *How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb*. Even listeners who rate it lower may miss its function if it is removed.

My rating is close to the community’s 7.9. I admire the ambition, although I think the studio production occasionally competes with the core melody.

The most interesting comparison is studio versus live. “Love and Peace or Else” has an arrangement sturdy enough to be reshaped, but the original recording still defines its atmosphere for me.
