The arrangement is the argument for me. On October, “With a Shout (Jerusalem)” leaves enough space for the rhythm section and guitar texture to pull in different directions without losing the song.

I keep coming back to the writing. “With a Shout (Jerusalem)” works because the emotional idea is direct, while the performance leaves some ambiguity around it. That balance is a very U2 strength.

Context matters here. Heard inside October, this feels more purposeful than it can on a shuffled playlist. The surrounding material changes the weight of the song.

My rating is close to the community’s 7.0. I admire the ambition, although I think the studio production occasionally competes with the core melody.

The most interesting comparison is studio versus live. “With a Shout (Jerusalem)” has an arrangement sturdy enough to be reshaped, but the original recording still defines its atmosphere for me.

A song can be important without being a personal favourite. “With a Shout (Jerusalem)” is a good test case: craft, historical place and the urge to replay it are three different questions.
