I give any release from Gondwana Records at least one attentive listen. Doing so with this new one now.
Not an album, but Hed Kandi's weekly show. I'm 35 minutes into 2 hours of killer house music jams.
Sound Affects - The Jam
*The music i had growing up, 70s to 90s, was just SUBLIME!!
Quote from: Tumbling Dice on July 15, 2026, 01:12:29 PM Foreign Tongues - Rolling Stones
The album's better than I thought it would be and a pleasant surprise. It's better than their last album Hackney Diamonds and their best since Bridges to Babylon from 1997. It sounds good, has quite a bit of variety and Mick seems to use more vocal range than has been the case for the past 30 years. There's clearly references with some of the songs to the classic Stones years including the 1970s. Worth a listen.
Certianly, the new album seems to be getting a shit ton of positive feedback. Which, in my world, is a great thing.

Muse's new album is a combination of mens choirs, children's choirs, bass solo's, heavy riffs, James Bond themes, dance tunes, power ballards & collaborations.
In other words they have toned it down.

U2's ninth studio album turns 30 today
I wonder if somewhere on the interwebs there is another entire u2 album released under a pseudonym just waiting to be discovered. And no, I don’t mean the medium rare album.

New Yes album from this month. I'm on my second listen now, first was on the 12th when it came out.
I gotta quit forcing myself to get so thoroughly acquainted with these dinosaurs' new releases. Excepting U2, because if they release something bad it's fun to complain about it on this forum, and because with Easter Lily, they showed that they can clearly still make legitimately great songs like Easter Parade. But the prog dinosaurs: both Yes and Jethro Tull have had a bout of renewed studio activity in the 2020s and it just isn't good. In both cases, though the music is largely uninspiring, a better singer might improve the songs somewhat. And with Tull I can understand not bringing in a new singer because Ian is the band and has been there from the very beginning. But, man, Yes with Jon Davison just sucks. He is forcing himself to sing pretty high to emulate Jon Anderson but it's so limp and smooth and soft-sounding. Even on the one instrumental track, otherwise probably the best track on this album, just the timbre of his vocalizations and the fact that he's literally singing "la la la" "doo doo doo" it's just silly. The music is Yes by numbers with the added bonus of sounding like bad Christian rock music (redundant) for children due to the singing. The final track on the album is mostly sung by bassist Billy Sherwood, whose voice I also don't care for, but at least it sounds pleasantly different until Davison comes back to harmonize. It is the other contender for best song on the album, though, because the chorus is actually kind of nice.
Their last album in 2023, Mirror To The Sky, was not amazing but surprisingly had some cool moments, and it had probably their best album cover since the '90s. All three of their 2020 albums released by InsideOut music have had two or three 'bonus tracks' at the end. I'm not sure why this is necessary. The band have said that they are part of the normal album and are only called 'bonus' by the label. But I can't find a version of the albums without bonus tracks so there's not really anything 'bonus' about them.

The new album from Olivia Rodrigo "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love"
It is quite good.
The grittier Taylor Swift?
I'm genuinely surprised at how much she has grown up and how good these songs are - there is a distinct new wave feel to a lot of the record.
Plus Robert Smith!
“stupid song” is fucking good.
(you know I had to give it a spin, coming from you )
Ha!
Aye she loves The Cure brought Smith out at Glastonbury and playrd Cure hits with him and you can deffo feel that influence on the record
Some of it is a bit poppy for my liking and the melodies a bit bubblegum at times and i am not a huge fan of her voice - it still comes across to me as a bit childish - but these are on the whole good songs and as she gets older (she is still only 23) i can see great things from her.
Not an album I would listen to (more something that my millenial daughter loves) but I can deffo acknowledge the quality of the work. There’s an edge to it.
End of day, it’s the same confessional type of songwriting as TS or LDR. Probably prefer LDR’s voice, tbh.
The vocals are easily the weakest part of it
Today is the 50th anniversary of the release of Chicago X. Probably the nadir of Terry Kath-era Chicago, but both Kath tunes, Jimmy Pankow's "You Are On My Mind", and a couple of the Robert Lamm tunes are pretty good. "Skin Tight" and "You Get It Up" are pretty dismal though.
