U2 MUSIC TALK
Your’s Eternally
I think I’m posting in the right place, wasn’t sure if it should just be on the Days of Ash thread in the general section. Anyways… I know this may be an unpopular opinion here, bu

For me I have no objection to a pop song as dessert as long as the protein and carbs of songs like Song for Hal, Easter Parade, The tears of things and others.
As a pop song, it’s among the better ones they’ve written.
They've had some bad pop songs though, which is why it worries me when they lean onto that route. Yours Eternally has grown on me, not significantly, but at least to the point where it's probably my third favorite of the five true songs on DOA. YE and In A Life definitely beat the majority of the poppy junk on SOE (Showman and Love Is Bigger are alright I guess). The 'pop' stuff on SOI was better though. And before that, Ordinary Love, I'll Go Crazy, and Window In The Skies all are catchier and less grating than what came after.
The Mexican song already sounds like a pandering and bad song

Pandering is spot on.
Yeah I'm not particularly looking forward to hearing the whole thing (I think it releases tomorrow?)

I think the important thing to remember is that it’s not our song. Ukrainian outlets have reported widely on this collaboration, a Ukrainian version of it is available by a popular artist in Ukraine, and the song is well known among the troops and those supportive of the war effort. For me, it’s a little too on the nose, but I get why they did it.

I know this may be an unpopular opinion here, but man, has this song grown on me.
I love that the bulk of the tracks, on both EP’,s aren’t chasing the pop crowd, but I also know that the band / label is gonna want some kind of a pop piece. And I’m ok with a radio hit or two.
No matter what they put out, they are unlikely to have a “hit” at this point, but this song does it for me.
I watched the two videos released for it, with the Soldiers training and their day to day activities, and it just brings out the positive vibe.
Admittedly, it does sound more like and Ed Sheeran song than a U2 song, but I still like the collaboration, and think it does stand better on its own, compared to recent prior releases anyways.
