GENERAL MUSIC TALK
10 Years Gone
10 years ago tonight, the Tragically Hip began their final tour. I'll try to post a song from each show from now until August 20. I'll probably delete this thread on Labor Day. Fir

Watched this and another interview. They were pretty worried about that final tour. Rob made a good point about not wanting to see Gord have a seizure on stage with 10,000 cameras filming it. Amazing what they were able to pull off.
Also love how the song Scared played a role with Gord being able to say goodbye.
You made me scared,I wasn't sure I was getting through I got to go It's been a pleasure doing business with you

I still can't watch these concerts. Too sad. Though I've watched a couple of songs: Scared and Grace, Too.
I had just returned to Canada after the better part of 15 years abroad and was driving from Toronto to Peterborough to start house hunting when I heard the news of Downie's illness and tour plans announced on the radio. What a summer of upheaval for me personally, and a big symbolic part of the youth I was trying to return to was about to pass away.
I still remember well hearing parts of the final concert since loads of neighbors were watching, but I had to distract myself with other things.
I've seen my share of live fan-shot Hip videos; never thought I'd see this song. Throwing Off Glass, Toronto, August 12, 2016:
Fiddler's Green, the show closer from London, Ontario, August 8, 2016.
Ten years ago tonight I saw my first and only Hip show in Winnipeg and they busted out this song. I hadn't ever heard it before that night but over the next several months as I immersed myself in their catalogue it became one of my absolute favorite tracks from the band.

Yup. That’s the one I referenced in one of my prior posts. Langlois was actually taking care of Gord Downey with Downey’s brother. He didn’t think there was a hope in hell they could tour.

Bloody awesome!
Wheat Kings is one of my favourite songs from any artist.
I was watching an interview the other day with one of the members of the Hip and he was talking about this tour. He said that leading up to it Gord Downey was really struggling. The radiation treatments had done a number on him and he couldn’t remember things and he was confused. But the one thing he could remember was melody’s. He said he was really dreading the shows until a day before they were going to start and Gord said to him he was really excited and it was gonna be great. That changed his whole attitude.
