GENERAL U2 TALK

Let’s here it, folks. Your honest opinion, without prejudice.
Still like the song but have no idea what the point of this just released video is?
Riff is decent, rest unoffensive besides how aggressively tuned Bono's vocal is. Enough for a 5. Will probably never seek this out again.
maybe the Hallmark channel can get exclusive broadcast rights to the new tour.
not that they would want to broadcast every show... because if you've seen one U2 show on a particular tour, you've seen them all.
I’ll give it an early 6. Leaning toward 7, maybe? Chorus and lead up are cliche U2 via Coldplay but, damn it, I don’t care - it still stirs me. The song suffers in the ways of other recent U2 songs - having lackluster verses, where Bono recites Hallmark slogans.
Heard it at a restaurant in the Twin Cities Saturday evening

I assumed they'd have better taste than that.

Quote from: Amor fati on July 25, 2026, 01:11:41 AM Bono sounds great here, Mr. The Edge ramps it up nicely, i've been around the moon watching the sprinklers water the freshly mowed grass under the recently calm skies before the heat dome returns and bakes us straight to hell. There was something glowing on my welcome mat in yellow, i tried to pick it up but it was tiny like half of a pea. It glowed like the bright part of a firefly.
Just realized this song kind of just....ends. Like....it was going somewhere and then...what? Still quite like it though.
They come for you at night Here for us in the fight Let us break down the noise its Just us against the boys
Making distance in the dark like a stranger at the park Walking tall and looking mean and everything in between
Blowing up and shutting down This whole world is ruled by clown(s)
And the shark - swims in the creek Sexy Angel - kisses on the cheek
Severed heads in a fishing bowl angry man watches the fishes get full
Life's too short and a maze Everyone knows its all a daze
Little boy on his skateboard See's the dead in the scoreboard
Cant believe i made that rhyme go to bed for fucks sake its time
See you again, tomorrow noon? afterall we've been around the moon Until then, be safe and sound No IPAs or skunk beer around
Dark clouds and fake tits only hurts for a little bit
Until it doesn't....
The song is produced to fit into the shape of festival electronic/poppy more than a rock song (although I use that in the broadest sense). As such, it feels a little off/different from what you'd expect. There's probably an earlier more rock-y version of this with some more melancholy feel in the middle. I think Bono once called it "a little drop of acid" keeping the upbeat songs from being bubblegum.
Quote from: Guggison on July 26, 2026, 06:55:53 AM A solid number 2.
More like a wet number 2..
I give it a 4. Definitely better than the other new song which has held steady at a 2 for me. Bono sounds good, Edge sounds okay, melodies seemed alright. Still subpar for U2, but not overly. Thus, 4.

Listening to now. Bono is over-performing his age. I need that NYD scream of sincerity. “Say it’s true, say it’s true”
Have been listening to Origin of Symmetry & The Wow Signal the last month.
So am being taken into outer space to have a gigantic & victorious battle with aliens. Arriving home in time for tea to a heros welcome. In every song!
Fireflies is certainly not taking me into space. Which is a shame as the EP's took me somewhere.
I just listened to it again and tempted to say 7.5
Cat came around and rubbed up against me wanting more food.
Im pretty much with Zero. Solid 7, like the song, i dont find it really lacking however its also not earth shattering either. it reminds me of GONE (which says a lot) but there are so many filters in my life regarding this band at this time i have a hard time loving it, but the guitar solo is in my head in a really good way. I see colors of the garden and the fruit on the trees.
Fat ass cat on the kitchen table looking for scraps after dinner - good boy - get off the damn table though we feed you enough! Still love my Elvis though.
7. Solid. Missing just one brave curveball-gear shift to make it have staying power 10 years from now.
It might be the second best track they've released this year. But I'll likely never listen to again.
4/10

Gave the official release the first listen with AirPods after listening to the YouTube clips for a few days.
Gave it an 8. I’m much more pleased with this than SOD. Although I’d prefer the direction the EP’s were going, I can handle this as well.
Doesn’t sound as Coldplay-ish to me as others have said.
I dig this :)

Giving this a “solid” 8.
Last time I was pleasantly surprised by them was with The Crystal Ballroom. That was a long time ago.
Obviously, Little Things was definitely superior, but it was more “classic” U2.
This sounds quite fresh.
Wow, no IPA joke here. You feeling OK?
The real question is what is he on. Gotta be something very strong to give this turd of a song an 8.
No worries. Nothing illegal.

When I saw the collaboration I just thought it was a side project. U2 contributing to a Martin Garrix song. But Bono is front and center of it.
If you look at the publishing credits, it’s a MG song. And it says MG + U2, not U2 feat. MG. It all points to it being a MG song for his forthcoming album.
It would be ironic if it was the best of the bunch. I gave it a 9 for the element of surprise. Will probably go down to a solid 8 later on.
I checked on MG, says he is a producer. He could write songs and get other artists to play on it.
However it does have the 21st Century U2 in cruise control mode over it.
Will find out eventually.

Why is it 'Martin Garrix and U2'?
He produced the song, which is his job. The production is standard for 2026. Did he co write the song?

Dull.
Bono does not stretch himself. Edge does not stretch himself.
Song is quite one paced and does not change direction. Not much interesting going on in the background before the song just stops.
Went with 6. On the one hand it's pretty safe, boring, post-Pop U2. But on the other hand there's nothing specifically wrong with it.

I might be in the minority, but this resonates with me more than anything they've done since SOI.
